Automated Meter Reading (AMR)
Since it has been introduced to the market, Automated Meter Reading has continued to be a hot topic in the metering industry. AMR devices generate a remote communication channel between a business and its energy supplier.
The versatility of AMR allows it to be applied across several locations and sites. This means AMR can save utility providers both time and money, as they don’t need to make periodic trips to read meters at several locations. This in turn lowers the carbon footprint of users, who will not have to travel to the sites by using public transport or their own vehicles.
AMR also gives users the benefit of more accurate bills, which helps customers analyse the amount of energy being used. These can be provided on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, assisting users so that they may examine their consumption and encourage them to operate more efficiently. Since AMR devices provide an accurate meter reading, estimated bills go out the window, and users will only pay for the energy they have used.
LoRaWAN technology
LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is a network that is designed to wirelessly connect battery operated devices to the internet in regional, national or global networks. Covering a range of up to 15km and preventing interference from external sources, LoRaWAN is the smart choice for your metering connectivity needs.
It is considered to be the ideal replacement for Wireless M-BUS connections, which have a total range of 300 metres, considerably less than LoRaWAN. MWA stocks a variety of products from different manufacturers that are compatible with LoRaWAN technology, some of which you can see here.
Elvaco product range
One of our product ranges that is particularly highly regarded is Elvaco. The Elvaco brand has significantly expanded and continues to successfully operate worldwide, covering a range of different connectivity and protocol solutions.
Elvaco prides itself on its heat, water and electricity meters, which are ideal for collecting statistics, co-ordinating bills and providing energy efficiency. Used by facilities such as hotels, airports, apartment blocks, shopping centres, hospitals and more, they are well suited to both the new build and retrofit markets.
Regarding the aforementioned LoRaWAN technology, Elvaco manufactures integrated meter modules for heat meters, which deliver data to a receiving server via a LoRaWAN network.
