Introduction
Most engineering teams bring in a gas train supplier once the rest of the project is already decided. The appliance is specified, the pipework is drawn, and the gas train is the last box left to tick.
It’s an understandable order of operations. It’s also the point at which the fewest options are left on the table.
But did you know MWA can support you from the very beginning?
Alongside our metering range – electricity, gas, water and heat – we now design and supply bespoke gas trains for industrial furnaces, pressure reducing stations and gas measurement applications. It’s a new addition to what we offer, aimed at a wider set of projects: consultants, contractors and end users who need the gas supply side of a project handled properly, not bolted on at the end.

What a gas train actually needs to get right
A gas train is the assembly that sits between the gas supply and the appliance – isolation valves, filtration, pressure regulation, and safety shut-off devices, all specified to match the appliance, the gas type and the site. For industrial furnace applications, that means building to EN 746 and certifying to the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), with pipe sizes typically running from Rp 1 to DN 200 and working pressures up to 6 bar.
None of that is complicated in isolation. What makes it hard to get right after the fact is that a gas train has to work with everything around it: the appliance’s actual gas demand, the pressure available from the upstream supply or PRS, and whatever measurement or monitoring the site needs layered in. Specify it too late, and you are fitting a solution around decisions that have already been made rather than shaping those decisions around the best solution.

Why early engagement changes the outcome
If you bring MWA in at the design stage, the conversation looks different. Instead of matching a gas train to a fixed layout, we help work out what that layout should be: the right valve selection, the right level of safety monitoring – from a straightforward shut-off arrangement through to full tightness control with its own control panel – and whether a bypass with flowmeter makes sense for maintenance access. Every gas train we build is a bespoke layout, because every furnace, every site and every safety requirement is different.
This is also where our full-solution approach comes in. We don’t just supply the meter or the gas train component and leave the rest to someone else. We can design the gas train, specify the pressure reducing station it connects to, and build in the measurement capability the site needs – as one coordinated piece of engineering, tested, certified, and supplied with the documentation to prove it.

What working with MWA on a gas train looks like

Consultation at the design stage, before pipework and appliance specification are locked in

Bespoke gas train layout based on your appliance, gas type and site requirements

Manufacture to EN 746, tested and certified to PED, with full test certificates and maintenance manuals

Integration with pressure reducing stations and gas measurement, specified as one system rather than separate parts

Delivery on skid or in packaged form, ready for site installation
Get us involved early
If you are at the point of specifying a furnace, planning a pressure reducing station, or scoping a project that includes any of the above, that’s the point to talk to us – not after the drawings are finished. Get in touch with the team to talk through your project from the ground up.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do I need to already have my furnace or appliance specified before I contact MWA?
No, and that’s exactly the point at which it helps to talk to us first. Bringing us in before the appliance or pipework is finalised means the gas train can be designed around the project, rather than fitted around decisions that are already locked in.
Does MWA only supply the gas train, or can you handle the pressure reducing station and measurement too?
We can handle all three as one coordinated solution. Rather than treating the gas train, the pressure reducing station and the measurement equipment as separate purchases, we design them to work together from the outset, so nothing gets mismatched further down the line.
What standards are your gas trains built and tested to?
Gas trains for industrial furnace applications are manufactured to EN 746 and certified to the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), with full test certificates and maintenance manuals supplied alongside the equipment.
Are gas trains a new direction for MWA, away from your metering range?
No – it’s a new addition alongside our existing electricity, gas, water and heat metering range, not a replacement for it. If your project needs metering, gas trains, or both, we can support it under one roof.
