Ultrasonic heat meters – the smart way to measure

Ultrasonic heat meters use ultrasound waves to measure the heat consumed in a system. They come with a host of advantages over more typical meters, making them the smartest way to measure. These types of meters are extremely accurate and can provide real time data for easy monitoring, billing and reporting. They use sound waves that bounce off the inside of the pipe, measuring the velocity of the liquid inside. Measurement estimate can be as close as 1% to actual flow, meaning they provide unprecedented accuracy. MWA offers a huge range of ultrasonic meters, for every possible metering application.

Heat meter benefits

Non-intrusive and heat proof

Ultra sonic meters are non-intrusive systems. This means that a sensor does not need to be installed inside the pipe, making the installation and ongoing maintenance of such systems very simple, making them very popular for where an intrusive method would be too difficult to implement.

Ultrasonic meters also have the advantage of being unaffected by heat. Whereas intrusive methods that require installation inside the pipe can be damaged by high temperatures, ultrasonic meters remain accurate in liquids up to 200 degrees Celsius.

Unparalleled versatility

Ultrasonic flow meters are able to measure liquid flow in both directions, which is ideal for heating applications. This is because both the hot water entering the system and the cold water exiting the system are measured, giving even greater accuracy and less room for error. They also work in a variety of pipe materials, including concrete, metal and plastic. Being so versatile, ultrasonic meters are often the best solution for many use cases, especially in heating applications.
