Nobody likes to be charged more than what they should be paying for. Estimated costs can be sent out and customers can rightfully be aggrieved that they are not getting the value they need. To the annoyance of many, this is the case with wastewater.
Wastewater costs more than water due to wastewater charges including taking away all your used water through a network of sewer pipes, cleaning it and returning it to rivers and the sea. Rainwater is also taken from homes and roads (also known as surface water or highway drainage). To put it simply, the cost to provide these services is more than delivering water to you, and is why charges for wastewater are higher on your bill than for water.
With this in mind, any facilities such as factories, universities or hospitals that have a high level of wastewater running off can cost a huge amount of money. Usually, this is not measured, but is based on the amount of water delivered to the property.
However, if you purchase a meter to measure the wastewater, you can prove that you are discharging less, ultimately meaning you will pay less. The billers do not also consider the amount of water used in the process.
For example, if 20% used in the process is water, you will only be charged for the 80% of the wastewater that came through.
If usage is high enough, the money saved on wastewater will pay for the cost of a meter in no time. There are several options from MWA that can help you to lower your wastewater costs, some of which are listed below.

GWF Q-Eye
The Q-Eye range from GWF consists of single flow measurement devices that can be mounted in drainage systems without cutting into the pipework. It provides highly accurate measurement of wastewater flows in several applications including open channel and partially filled pipelines. The devices exceed the expected standards for the industry and allows water experts the ability to mix and match both continuous and temporary monitoring with pioneering technology.

Siemens MAG 8000
The MAG 8000 is a comprehensive meter that is easy to install and provides long lasting performance along with a low cost of ownership. Because the meter has no moving parts, there is considerably less wear and tear, and it can be powered by either batteries or mains. Featuring a GSM/GPRS wireless communication module, the information from the meter can be transmitted to a system or PC via email or SMS, saving the customer from having to retrieve the meter for information.
